Forgiven — A Musical

In a dazzling world of tennis dreams and shattered illusions, Forgiven serves up a tale of ambition, love and redemption. Lin Ming, a young Singaporean tennis sensation yearns for a life outside the familiar, beyond the bounds of familial expectations (“What Would You Say?” / “Daddy’s Little Girl”). But Fear weighs heavy on her mind. Fear of failure, of leaving her whole life behind just to come up short.

With support from her loved ones, Lin accepts a full scholarship to the University of North Carolina and leaves behind everything she knows.

Arriving at school, Lin can’t help but catch attention — from students and faculty alike — and struggles with being so objectified.

Leo, a handsome but down-on-his-luck agent, strikes a deal with notorious mafioso, Mr. Big, to convince Lin to sign her life away under the big man’s management (“Sign With Me”).

Growing from conniving faux-secret admirer (“Flowers and Chocolates”) into head-over-heels lover (“You Are the One For Me”), Leo does his best to right his wrong, agreeing to be the pawn in a police sting operation to put Mr. Big away for good. But fate is fickle, and in trying to save the life of his love, Leo seemingly loses his own (“Not Guilty”).

Lin returns to Singapore, and to the court where her dreams began. After a poignant reflection on a life and love cut short (“Let me cry”), she collapses, awakening in a hospital to be given a terminal diagnosis.

Devastated and broken, Lin heads home in a wheelchair to find a letter from her love waiting for her (“Leo’s Letter”), a note that Leo is alive but heartbroken and in a sorry state not too different from her own.

Lin nearly succumbs to Fear, and even darker things, but for the help of her old friend, Adeline, and the embodiment of Love itself (“Come With Me” / “I See You”).

Adeline brings Lin to a church where, in a surprise twist, a reformed Mr. Big, now a priest, confers God’s blessing onto Lin and Leo, healing them miraculously and breathing hope back into their lives.
The musical crescendos with the characters finding forgiveness, redemption and a collective healing experience in the final number, set against the backdrop of a church.

Forgiven is a powerful musical that explores the complexities of human relationships, the consequences of ambition, and the transformative power of forgiveness. Through its captivatingstoryline and evocative songs, it leaves the audience reflecting on the resilience of the human spirit and the capacity for redemption.
